That sounds so...adult.
Nine is almost Ten, which is double digits. Remember how HUGE it was to turn double digits when you were a kid? Did your parents then let you do something terribly grown-up, because now you were TEN? I think I was allowed to stay home alone after school instead of going to a baby sitter. Being home alone made it much easier to watch Days Of Our Lives and read romance novels that went completely over my head.
At the beginning of our marriage we "did" our anniversary: fancy dinner, jewelry, perhaps even flowers if one of us were really on top of our game. Our first anniversary was at From The Bayou, then we hit some Tom Douglas restaurants. Our fourth (or was it third?) anniversary money was super duper tight. We did lunch at Lola and exchanged accessories. Kevin got me a cute purse from Target. I found a button-up at Ambercrombie and Fitch for $17.95. For number five I got my bracelet from Tiffany's in that magic teal blue box and hit Serious Pie. Then it all starts to fade because Kevin works the opera every year and we've always had to wait until the show closes.
But we got lucky this year. Kevin's evening rehearsal was canceled and we actually got to celebrate ON our anniversary! It wasn't fancy, a small dinner after the kids were in bed, and then (like Mamma Mia) dot...dot..dot. But it was the biggest treat to be together.
Although I must confess, if Kevin hasn't already ratted me out on Facebook. If he hadn't mentioned it the day before, I might have completely forgot.
On March 1, my sweet husband catches me and says, "Hey, it's March 1st!" with a look in his eye that means pay attention this is a meaningful moment.
And I give him the blank stare that he usually give me when I say, "Hey, did you remember to do whatever chore was vitally important to me fifteen minutes ago when I asked you to do it?"
"March 1st. March 2nd. (pause for me to catch on, it doesn't happen) Our anniversary."
oops
So I 'fess up. It's a good laugh.
And then I wake up to this the next morning. I'm being sweet, he had a late night at rehearsal.
I realize that I have, in less than 24 hours, forgotten about our anniversary twice.
But don't worry, I made it up to him . . .
