"A big owie"

I watched the fall with Fiona in my arms. Patrick was running on the play structure towards the slide. Quick as lightening he tripped. Bang! His forehead hit the stair. In the 10 seconds it took me to reach him a big ol' goose egg had already risen, right between his eyes. The other nice mommy at the park held Fiona while I carried my crying boy off the big toy.

The picture above doesn't do it justice. The knob was really impressive! I wrote on Facebook that he looked like a half-breed Klingon. I thought for a bit about taking him to urgent care. He was crying so hard! And the lump was so big! He bashed the edge of that step something good. But I knew what they'd tell me. So I saved myself the $50 and just told it to myself. We checked on him a few times that night. He wasn't loving it, but he was OK.

I think it looks even more impressive a few days later. Look at all the bruising under his eyes! There's still a lump, but he's not complaining of pain and he's as crazy as ever. We played with the Larson kids the other day. Patrick just hero-worships Isaac and copies everything he does. They were playing in his room, and Patrick was being his normal self. "Patrick's being wild!" Isaac cried out. "I know buddy," I said. "I'm sure sorry about that."

Yeah, the days-later bruising is pretty impressive. Funny- I have a couple pictures of Finn from earlier this spring that are startlingly similar.... ;)

Obviously, I hadn't read your blog when we saw you on Saturday. Ouch!

At least you have a picture for future blackmail if needed. :)

I remember when Eddie had a goose egg like that. So scary, but yeah ... after the initial "ow" they're usually back to normal. :)
