I met Renee and Joel today. She knew me, but I had long forgotten her.
But she didn't mind. Renee quickly reminded me of our single meeting, five years prior.
I was still working part-time at "The Other Hospital." Renee was 40 weeks pregnant with her first child. Her doctor, a nice man but traditional practitioner, scheduled her for a labor induction because "she was due." Renee, wanting to be done but reluctant to induce for convenience, showed up at the hospital. She met me.
Renee said that I told her that she and her baby were fine. That I was unaware of any medical reason for the labor induction. That she didn't have to be induced today. That she could just go home and talk with her doctor about a plan they both felt good about. Renee said she walked out the door. And she came up with a plan, as well as a whole different doctor. She delivered her baby at "My Hospital" with no induction. She was thrilled that she trusted herself and her body to make a good choice.
So I'm walking my dogs home when a tan Ford Explorer pulls up and a pretty redhead waves at me, jumping out of the car. This is Renee.
"I've seen you around town for years and I've always wanted to stop you and thank you for telling me I didn't have to be induced."
Today was a good day to receive such a precious gift. Thanks Renee.

It's really nice when an act of kindness repays directly back to the person who did it. Knowing that you gave good advice is enriching - knowing that it made a positive impact on someone else is rewarding beyond words. I'm happy for you! :)
You are such a good nurse Jenny. I'm very proud of you.
I have always known that you are a wonderful nurse. Congrats, Jenny, that is a beautiful compliment!
You are amazing! I admire you so much for doing such a hard job so well and so gracefully. The women of our town are lucky to have you advocating for us.
