Away from Home

I'm down south with the family.  It's insane how full the car is for a four day trip with one adult and one toddler. A gigantic suitcase. Diapers. Toys (indoor, outdoor, and bath). Books, for him and me (I brought four). DVD's. Stroller. PacknPlay. Bedding. High chair.

Life would be survivable without all this crap, but it would be a hell of a lot more work.

We treated ourselves to Burgerville (hey, Alicia! It's just as good as you say!) for some playtime, then scored points with a surprise visit to Patrick's great-grandparents. All of the old people just loved watching him run around, and he was very social and fun with everybody. He warmed up nicely with Grandpa and GiGi, wonderful since he doesn't see them very much. Then off to the playground to run in the sunshine before heading home to my Mom's house.

Craig taught Patrick how to use the sprayer on the hose. This was the best game ever until he nailed himself in the face. Then he wanted to watch Charlie and Lola.

David and Beth (my brother and beautiful sister in law) joined us for dinner. It was perfection to see them both, and they are just the loveliest couple. Funny and sweet and boringly nice to each other. They are a wonderful balance and compliment to each other. I'm thrilled they found each other, and so happy to have Beth in our family. If they'd only move North! Patrick was a touch shyer but warmed up pretty fast. They brought Bug with them, a mini schnauzer. A great dog. He did quite well with Patrick.

Kevin, stuck at work at home, will have three nights to do what he wants, eat what he wants, sleep in, hog the computer, and have an overload of me time. Poor him.

This sounds like a great time. Children thrive amongst extended family! Wish we could see all of you. Hugs, AJ
