Random Bits

Kevin let me have my sleep-in turn on Saturday. I slept about 11 hours. Later that morning he said he liked his happy wife much better than the crabby wife he's had the last week. Sleep works wonders, I replied. Let me have more of it and you'll be amazed! The reality is we both get about one morning a week to "sleep in." Thanks to jobs and an early kiddo (closer to 5am this past week, sweet Lord in Heaven), anything past 6am is considered good. We both had this weekend off, so we each got a day! And we even made it to church on Sunday.

The spare room is nearly cleaned out, furniture aside. I'm pleased, considering storage space doesn't really exist in this house. It keeps us from hording out of habit, which I'm grateful for. But losing an office/storage space to another baby is forcing some creativity. And multiple trips to Goodwill. Anybody want a bookshelf and a loveseat? I'm hoping to have it empty by the end of the week, and painted by the end of the month. I want Patrick to be in his big boy room before the holidays (Thanksgiving at the latest), so that one big change is in place long before a REALLY big change hits in February. And considering how tired I am all the time, I have no desire to tackle this project in my third trimester.

I love the feel of Fall in the air. I don't even mind the wind and rain right now. I'm ready for flannel pajamas, pumpkin spice candles, and comfort food in the crock pot. The challenge will be getting our yard cleaned up for winter, as there always seems to be something more fun to do. A whole new wardrobe is slowly filling my closet, and I'm hoping I don't have to buy a bigger coat to get through this winter. In that spirit I reorganized Patrick's clothes this evening while Daddy took over bathtime. Summer clothes and small clothes were put away, in storage until the next go-around. Luckily for us, he's pretty good for winter clothes, since I won't be. I've already found him a winter coat, but we'll splurge on snow boots and gloves. Didn't think we'd need them last year (ha ha) and then they were nowhere to be found. It's a mistake I too frequently make, so I'll suck it up and spend the money.

I've hit 18 weeks, and our big ultrasound appointment is at the end of the month. I'm getting girl vibes, but Kevin is getting boy vibes. Hey, we each have a 50/50 shot! When I lay down I can feel good kicks and nudges. Will we get another busy baby? We've both been asked if we "want" a boy or a girl. In all honesty, we are both so happy to be pregnant that a healthy baby of either gender is a thrill. No preference one way or another. At the same time, I realize that for many people this are real desires and disappointments. Maybe we'd feel differently had our fertility experiences taken an alternative path. But I'm just so grateful to have gotten pregnant, stayed pregnant, with considerably less fuss than before, that I'm ready for either journey.

In the meantime, I could use some book recommendations. I'm having a hard time finding something to catch my interest. Any thoughts?

I have something for you. (Not just Patrick's sippy cup.) Oh yeah, this is not who it says it is - it's the wifey.

I read the book My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult but didn't see the movie. The book was great. Then I saw the movie The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks, but didn't read the book. It's on my list to read. Both are very touching stories. Interesting fact is that both movies were directed by Nick Cassavetes. Another tearjerking book is Marley and Me by John Grogan. The only two books I ever cried reading was this one and Gone with the Wind.

Book recommendation: "The Good Wife." Subject matter is not too light but it's interesting and a good quick read.

I told Camille the other day that I was secretly rooting for you to have a girl. I really don't have a gender preference, it is based on sheer genetic curiosity. Now that I know what a boy Jenny and Kevin looks like, I really want to see what a girl Jenny and Kevin looks like.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult was incredibly powerful. Good girly reading. If you want something simple and fun, try "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" by Emily Giffin.
