Wouldn't it be funny

Kevin and I had just returned home from a surprisingly good ultrasound appointment in late June. Having been prepared for bad news, the sudden change caught us off gaurd. We were reminded Who is really in charge, and it wasn't us. My mom met us in the driveway with a guarded look. "How is everything?" she asked. "Fine," I replied. What? Yep, fine. Heart beat is 150 beats a minute, growth is up to day, and everything is normal. Now what? Now I just get to be pregnant.

Fourteen weeks later we headed back to the ultrasound office with lighter hearts. I'd reached 20 weeks, and all signs were promising. I've been feeling lots of baby kicks, growing out of my clothes, and thanks to my job I can borrow a doppler and listen to the heartbeat whenever I want (at work, of course). As the ultrasound date grew closer, the questions increased.

Will you find out the gender? You bet
Will you tell people? Of course, I couldn't keep it a secret to save my life
Do you have names picked out? Almost...
Are you hoping for a...No, I want a healthy baby and I'll take it anyway I can get it.
Kevin and I placed our bets, with the winner getting to choose how to spend some entertainment money. He picked boy, I went with girl because it was the only option left. I'd thought girl once, but was edging back towards boy. But we couldn't bet the same thing!

"Well, right now the cord is between the legs."

I laughed, if this was the worst news we got I'd be thrilled to pieces. The fabulous ultrasound tech at my midwives' office continued with the survey. All looking good. Lots of moving and kicking. I changed positions.

She pointing at the screen. "Well, it looks like a baby...sister!"

I laughed again and burst into tears. We gripped hands. A girl!

I remembered back to that last ultrasound. After returning home I was looking out our front window. I'd been on the computer but something caught my eye. Then I saw it again. I tiny hummingbird, darting among the flowers. I'd never seen one around my yard and haven't since. Wouldn't it be funny if it turned out to be a girl? I thought.

And so it shall. Fiona Lynn.

I LOVE that name! Fiona and Patrick are adorable together, too. Congrats again!

And, just let me know when you want to meet up for those clothes and I'll sort through them. I'm assuming you'll only need one of each outfit. I have clothes from newborn through 18-24 months, many in perfect condition. I like to shop ;)
