I'm trying to think about what made this weekend so great. And at the heart of it was how in sinc Patrick and I were with each other. Or more accurately, I was in sinc with him. We just had loads of fun together. The park, stroller walks, unstructured playtime, good naps (always a plus), and lots of snuggling. He's really into his Mommy right now. Luckily, I have a fantastic partner who is confident enough in his parenting that he can handle a little Mommy-favoritism at the moment. So we both just go with it.
It was, however, a bit of a wild morning. Kevin was working, so I got Patrick to church on my own. This is not too big of a deal. But I was singing at two services, and needed to be at church at 8am for rehearsal. As I'd missed the Saturday practice session (working, my usual excuse), I really needed to be there, even for a pretty but simple choral piece. I decided to keep Patrick with me so he wasn't stuck in the nursery for 3+ hours. Remember, Patrick is not the kid who will sit and color for 30 minutes. He wants to run around. Or have me hold him. Or play with stuff on the alter.
I've got Patrick in my arms, all 30 pounds of him, keeping him off the microphones, and trying to work on the piece. It was pretty awesome.
I also sang as part of the praise team for the contemporary service. I'd been wanting to join up, and my work schedule and their practice schedule finally aligned! It was loads of fun, and I just wish I could work it in more often. But given my loathing of busy-ness, once a month is probably fine.
Patrick played hard in the nursery, and was nodding off listening to Bob the Builder on CD at home by 11:20. Naps for all! A lovely family afternoon and evening once Kevin came home, and I'm ready for the next few days at work.
Thanks for all the lovely comments and congratulations about our girl! Thank goodness we have another 18-20 weeks to get used to the idea of raising a non-boy. But the clothes sure are cute, aren't they?
