Another first, for more than one of us!
Kevin and I officially joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Saturday night, Easter vigil. I'd been especially eager, going to services every evening from Thursday til Sunday morning. Several times, there was food involved! Patrick did pretty well, from making it through the service, falling asleep nursing in the dark baby room, playing in the nursery, and sleeping in my arms during my baptism. Nathe and Alicia sponsored us, so now they are my godparents. If anything happens to my Mom, they will make sure I am taken care of. Being Lutherans, we just do a little water sprinkle on the head. It was very special, a last minute decision in a way. I hadn't considered it for now (thinking I'd deal with it later) until Pastor Ruud mentioned it at our last "new people" meeting. I'm used to the school of thought where you take classes for a year to "earn" your baptism. Pastor Ruud said that he looks as baptism as just one part of a journey and is welcome for anybody who thoughtfully decides they want it. So I went for it. It's a great group of people, the church has a reputation for being quite liberal and very involved in social justice. We are happy to have found them, Thanks Nathe and Alicia!
And just in case you are wondering, Kevin still considers himself Catholic, just a Catholic member of a Lutheran church. Now I tease him for using the Catholic words to the various parts. He grins back and doesn't change a damn thing.
We had a great lunch with friends Don and Barb, their daughter Renee and her shiny new husband Fred, plus Renee's kids Andy and Mike. I didn't even recognize them with their "Harry Potter" shaggy haircuts, looking like big kids! Patrick loved all the people, but clung to Mommy. The food was fantastic and we had a blast.

We so wished we could have been there. Congrats!
St. Mark's is a wonderful place and I know you will be happy there. That is where I went before we moved. The thing I loved about St. Mark's is that it was a place I felt both at home and challenged to grow. This is what church should be like. God's blessings on your journey, congratulations on your baptism, and welcome to the family.
Congratulations! I was wondering if you were both becoming members or you were being baptized. Both! (Although I knew Kevin was Catholic. Lutherans don't double-dip.)
