Alright experienced mommies: answer me this.
Why does my baby like to eat somedays more than others? Why does my baby like food one day, but hate it the next? What did your kid like the most, initially?
Patrick ate a great breakfast, but only half-hearted at dinner. I don't stress, and I don't force once it's clear he's done. I take my time and don't worry about the mess. Plus, he still nurses a lot and I'm in no hurry to wear. But any other tips would be terribly appreciated! We really want food to be fun and interesting at our house.

Remember I've never had a baby.
Look at what he eats as a whole rather than at specific meal times (this tid-bit will come in handy when he's a toddler). If he eats well as a whole then you're fine.
And some days pureed peas just don't taste good.
Oh, it so varies. A grilled cheese sandwich. Watermelon. Cheerios. Carrots. It varies from kid to kid, mood to mood, growth spurt to growth spurt. How strong their swallow reflux is, how tired they are. It's never the same ... sorry I'm not more help. I have a good book for you if you want it though ... Super Baby Food.
Elijah goes through this A LOT. Most days he is not a picky eater and then all of a sudden he doesn't want a thing. But we have found over tme that he will eat if he is hungry. We end up having a "snack time" on those days that is a couple of hours after regular mealtime and when he decides he is skipping dinner we do our best to give his some munchies before bedtime routine. This has worked very well for us and Elijah seems to continue to gain weight and not care too much and oveall is still a good eater. I guess there are just days when he is too busy or not feeling well or for whatever reason not interested in food. Sometimes this will last for 2 or 3 days maybe even a week where he jsut doesn't eat a ton but gets buy and then all of a sudden he is eating two bowls of cereal and toast with eggs for breakfast and a steak for lunch so I have given up trying to understand why but feel comfort in the fact that it does come and go and as long as he continues to have a healthy weight gain then there really is not much to worry about.
Cheers

Um, just because?
It's new.
Our kids would eat solids for a day or so, then not ... it just cycles as they get used to it all.
Both of my kids love to eat. We started out with one meal a day (dinner, so they would go to bed with a full tummy). Then after about two or three weeks we added a second meal. Then after two or three weeks we added the third. Don't sweat it. He is still nursing, and that is a "meal" without a spoon.
I read somewhere to give kids veggies first, because if you do the fruit thing first they will take to that and ignore the veggies (it's sweet, like candy). I also read somewhere to wait at least an entire week before introducing a new food to make sure there are no allergies.
As far as liking things from one day to the next, hey we don't always like to eat the same thing from day to day. But, if you really want him to eat the peas he loved the day before, combine them with something else on the same spoon that he does want to eat. (Don't mix, 1/2 the spoon what he wants to eat, 1/2 of what you want him to eat). It's the best of both worlds. I still do that with Amber to get her to try new things sometimes.
Good luck. Hugs from here.

My mother reminded me that babies just like adults don't feel as hungry from day to day. And some meals just make you feel full for longer.
You are doing great. Do not stress. Offer different things and see what he likes and doesn't like.
Your baby is still getting plenty of food nursing!! Start bout slow, replacing or adding only one meal a week. Once he gets used to having food for breakfast, then add lunch and dinner, then snacks. If he eats a great breakfast, then nurses like usuall, he isn't hungry for dinner. Breakfast is best to start with because they are getting started in their day and not tired and cranky like dinner time. Be sure to include him at all mealtimes, and offer him soft fingerfoods to nibble on. Stick to a schedule of what meals he eats so he can get used to it and have the babysitter do the same. He will get in the routine and start eating more and more, and unfortunately nurse less and less.
My baby liked peaches at first. Months of mamas milk and peaches. Pears and squash and toast came within the year too.
The hungry thing? Who knows. Maybe he ate a little more at the breast?? Isn't as hungry today?? Kids are weird.
