Seven Months

Dear Patrick: You are seven months old today!

We are officially over the half-way point in your first year with us. What a big month this has been. Lots of big "firsts" for you, and Mommy and Daddy have survived as well.

You are officially mobile as of Christmas Eve. Yikes. You are a very determined little buddy, and it's difficult to distract you from your intended destination. Especially appealing are the toilet, the dogs' water dish, exposed cords by the phone, and the heating vents. Charming. But as of the past week, even crawling is getting old for you. You are doing a lot of bear-walking, where you crawl on your tippy-toes. My girlfriend says this means you'll walk early. Oh boy. You like to pull yourself up on things, and Mommy is a great jungle gym. Many mornings I'm trying to get ready in the bathroom, when I hear your little voice. I turn around, and there you are! Having escaped Daddy's clutches in your room to track me down.

Which leads to another new event. You REALLY want your Mommy. Alot. All the time. Even when you aren't nursing. It's very sweet to see you get so excited for me, but it would be nice if you were a little less excited at, say, 4am. Your favorite wake-up time.

Christmas day we started you on solids, with Grandma excitedly filming the event. First avocados, then bananas. Applesauce isn't a favorite, but pears are alright. Squash is Top, but chicken was a big hit as well. Somedays you eat better than others. As you get older, Mommy and Daddy are getting more of a routine down. But you are really setting it up. Meals times (8am and 5pm), Nap Times (one small morning and a big one in the afternoon), and a sacrosanct bedtime routine (change into jammies, story, nursing, asleep). Now if you would just sleep longer at night....

You are the most joyful kid. You are so proud of yourself for sitting up, for pulling yourself up in your crib (AHHH I'm not ready!), for banging the measuring cups together, for anticipating the "for Patrick and Mommy" end of Patty-Cake. You suck on my chin when I come home from work. You laugh when you rub Daddy's beard.

I'm flat out crazy for you, my BoBo.

Love
Mommy

It's really fun to read this ... especially from someone who so freshly remembers the "my baby doesn't love me" period you had ... for a brief amount of time. Have no fear, they always go back to mommy. :)
