In like a lion, out like a lamb

We got a late start to our Saturday. Kids slept (Patrick until 6:30!) and we lounged with our coffee. Patrick watched Laura's Star twice in a row, in between playing Star Wars with Kevin and kissing his sister and running around nekkid. We finally got our act together. Everybody is sitting in the minivan. Fiona is crying in her chair of torture. Kevin turns the key....

He and I look at each other. Click click click is the wrong noise to hear in your car. Especially when accompanied by the silence of your newish car NOT STARTING.
We try several times, just in case a miracle has occurred in the previous ten seconds.

Nope.
We open the hood and stare at the engine. Perhaps there is a big hand written sign explaining what is wrong with our car!

Nope.
We decide to take a change and attempt a jump start. Luckily, we've done this before when I left the lights on the Wagon while at work for 12 hours. Kevin wins the job of pushing the van down the driveway and into place. I'm dealing with one crying child and one child that really wants to help Daddy and is pretty irritated about standing with Mommy. The jump start works, we both stop imagining thousands of dollars in repairs, and Kevin takes Patrick to get a new battery. I go upstairs with crying baby.

Kevin calls with a good report. He noticed a dome light on in the back while putting gas in the car before buying a new battery. Light is now off and he's on his way home.
We hit the Farmer's Market, checked out a great jewelry store in Proctor, bought coffee, and let Patrick play at the park. Fiona politely slept in my Baby K'Tan. The rest of the day we kicked it at home. Kevin put stew in the crock pot and mowed our lawn for the first time in six months. I ran after children.

Currently, Patrick is in bed, Fiona is snoozing in the swing thanks to our vacuum cleaner (thanks for the tip Rhonda, it worked!), and we both are enjoying a glass of wine.

Not a bad Saturday.
