Last Night

I go back to work tomorrow. My lunch is packed. My clothes are laid out. My work bag and breast pump are ready to go. My alarm is set...for 5am. I've been spoiled, getting to sleep in with my sweet girl while Kevin gets Patrick settled for the morning routine of food, cartoons, and maybe some Star Wars computer gaming with Daddy.

I'm feeling OK about it all. It helps that going back to work isn't up for debate. There's no question about staying at home. Plus, I rather like my job. I'm pretty good at it, and I work with such a great crew. I even like my bosses. And it forces both of us to take an equal hand at parenting. Kevin and I have found we really like being able to handle kid stuff at the same level. In fact, I had to ask Kevin, "What do you put in the day care bag again?" when I would drop Patrick off. We both know the bedtime routine. We can both handle the day.

Starting tomorrow, Kevin will start figuring out what I've had three months to do. We don't have day care anymore. We are working opposite schedules. While I'm at work, Kevin's at home with BOTH children. The whole time. All day. Say a prayer for a hard-working Daddy, ladies. Thanks to my predictable schedule and the flexibility of Kevin's Starbucks' job, we are able to make this work. And I'll admit, it's easier heading out the door knowing that they'll be with a parent.

It's been such a lovely three months at home. Even with yucky early spring weather, I've had such a good time playing with Patrick and getting to know my sweet Fiona. They are such wonderful, beautiful children. My treasures. Because while I do love my job, it sure is more fun to go to the park and window shop at Sephora.

Wish me luck, my friends.
