Getting into baby mode

When I was pregnant with Patrick, it seemed like I had an eternity to get my act together. Decorate a nursery, fold tiny clothes, pack a bag...I was itching to get it all done. But the pregnancy itself just crept on by, slowly, as I read each new section in "Your Pregnancy Week-by-Week." I took the dogs on huge walks, showed off in yoga class, and waited.

What did I do with my days when I wasn't following Patrick around?

I just put Patrick to sleep in his big boy room, a routine that still feels novel. I've sorted the obscene amount of baby girl clothes, but I still need to sort through the boy stuff. Having kids in two different seasons is really throwing me off. By Sunday night, I'll have gotten everything on my 36 week list checked!

I wouldn't say I'm ready to be done with pregnancy. I love all the kicks and movement. I love rubbing my belly. I'm not so much in love with 12 hour shifts. Work is much harder than staying at home right now. For example, Patrick is only 30+ pounds, while my patient on Tuesday was at least 300. I'm also much more frustrated with strangers asking me questions, something I found quite sweet several years ago.

To all my lovely friends with your multitude of children, I'm so sorry that I just didn't get it until now! While I can't make it up to you, I can make it up to the next bunch...you know who you are, California girls.
