Thirteen Weeks

Dear Patrick: You are thirteen weeks/three months old!

This letter might be in parts, or get cut off quickly. You are rather crabby this evening, and it's making your Daddy a bit nuts. It's harder for him to sooth you because, well, he can't breastfeed. I read lots of sleep books before you were born (not that I've really followed any of them), and many told Mommies not to feed their babies to sleep. At the time, I thought, "This is brilliance." Now I think, "Well, of course I'm going to breastfeed you to sleep because it works so darn well." I love breastfeeding you, and I'm sorry this will embarrass you terrible when you read this is about thirteen years. Bummer.

Mommy went back to work, and you've started daycare. You've been great for the daycare lady so far. You love watching the other kids, and they are fascinated by you. Daddy drops you off and picks you up, while Mommy slaves away at work. The first time I left you was pretty hard. I'll admit, I cried a bit. But I like my job, and knowing you are doing well at daycare makes it really easy. Plus, working such long days means I have lots of day with you at home. A part of me would love to stay home full time, but like my job. I think I'm pretty good at it.

OK, it's nice to have Mommy break as well. As wonderful as you are, Mommy still has moments of, "Now what do we do?"

You are so close to doing so many things: laughing, rolling over, grabbing toys reliably to bring them to your mouth. Lying on the floor (naked) and kicking is still a favorite, however. I don't know if you'll ever grow out of this. So I guess when you are a big grown up, we should call before coming over.

I love you, my precious little boy.

Love
Mommy

You need to post that awesome goofy grin I got him to do the other day. Actually e-mail me a copy or send me an invite to your Kodak gallery.

Happy 3 months big guy!
