Opa

Kevin and I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of Opa, a Greek place up 6th avenue. And not the trendy part of 6th Ave, but the rough-and-tumble, starting to clean up part. We went there for lunch, as the prices are usually a bit cheaper but you still get a good idea of the food quality.

Overall, we were very pleased. The menu isn't as unique as I would like. There are some strange additions that aren't Greek in the slightest, but I understand that they want the menu to appeal to a wide variety of diners. Kevin and I weren't very creative. We both had the gyros. Tasty and HUGE, a fantastic lunch treat.

Prices are fair, the service was attentive (and spot on for a new place, which can sometimes be kind of rough), and my only complaint was a rather pedestrian ambiance. Nice, but nothing note worthy. And Greek music would have been a nice touch. We'll definitely be back, but I wouldn't go there when I was seeking atmosphere. But for families, this is a great place to try. Check out this review by Tacoma Mama for some more details.

I love the name of the restaurant! Takes me back to the wedding scene of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" where the in-laws get smashed on the licorice alchohol.

I've been really wanting to try that place as well, seeing as I'm already a huge fan of Johnny's in Lakewood & It's Greek To Me. I'm glad to hear it was at least decent. There's also a gyros place on 40th & Bridgeport (in UP) that has a $2.99 lunch special...you should check it out. Pretty lousy decor, but great food. By the way, Bruce, Courtney, Justin & I are going to Bombay's grand opening Sep. 13. We're dying to FINALLY get to eat there...we've been watching the construction for months! Anyway, I'll let you know how it is.
