5. Your Wicked Ways by Eloisa James (library) re-read.
This is the fourth of the Duchess Quartet, a very fun, sexy series with interesting, likeable characters. But she does an especially lovely job of creating heros outside of the standard alpha-male box: rich, titled, extraordinary lovers, saving the virgin heroine in some manner. In this book, the hero and heroine are married, but have been living apart acrimoniously for nine years. And he's not an amazing lover to begin with, he gets some "training" by the heroine. So a few stereotypes are avoided from the beginning. She's not a 19 year old virgin. He's a sloppy dresser, bad at charming women, and writes comic operas. But they are rich. And titled. Who wants to read romances about poor servants? If I was interested in the butler and the housekeeper, I'd read "The Remains of the Day."
But I need a break from romance novels...starting to crave something "else." I'm thumbing through an old book tonight because I don't feel like starting something new, I just want the comfort of familiar characters. But I've been sitting on the new Jimmy Buffett book. It begged to be read in the summertime. So perhaps, after yardwork and practicing Messiah tomorrow, I'll finally see what happens to Tully Mars in "A Salty Piece of Land."
Have I talked about Fifteen AKA the most expensive lunch ever? Tomorrow, then...
