Five Weeks

Dear Patrick: You are five weeks old.

Mommy just can't believe how fast the time is going. Didn't we bring you home yesterday? But as a loose schedule slowly develops, we are starting to feel that we just might be getting the hang of this parenting thing.

You makes lots of noises, and it's not just crying. You are cooing and bleating, rather like a mix of a dove and a goat. You randomly smile for a few seconds. Is it at us? Or at the ceiling fan, which holds your extreme interest. This allows Mommy to go to the bathroom by herself. She really appreciates this small kindness.

Everybody asks, "Does he sleep?" You sleep as much as a baby sleeps....and four hours is a generous stretch. What feels long during the day is too short at night. The other night you didn't want to sleep after eating. Mommy got to listen to one extra hour of NPR from 3-4am while you kept your eyes wide open. I promise we can listen all you want during the daytime.

On Monday your Great-Grandparents came up to visit you. Grandpa Roy and Gigi Norma are Mommy's grandparents, still kicking sharp in their mid-eighties. Your Great-Aunt Leslie, Grandma's sister, also came to see you. We went out for lunch (a favorite activity), played cards, and gossiped about the rest of the family. Before everybody left, we remembered to take pictures. See, Mommy and Daddy are getting the hang of that!

You are outgrowing lots of your newborn clothes, thanks to being such a big eater. We also had to increase our diaper service for you to 100 diapers a week. With 90 we would still run out by Thursday. You are very proficient. And you still toot very loudly.

You are my precious sweet man.

Love
Mommy

PS. Your Great-Grandpa is surrounded by FOUR Swanson women. 61 Years of active combat, indeed.

Yeah for the four generation picture! I love it. You will appreciate that you remembered to snap this picture in the future.

Thanks for hanging out with me today, grocery shopping at Joe's was so much fun.
