Week Three

Dear Patrick: You are three weeks old (yesterday).

Daddy and I are starting to learn loads about your personality. If you want to be held, you are quite intolerant of NOT being held. Aren't babies supposed to like the swing? The Ergo carrier works great to meet your need of being held, and my need of having hands free to get a glass of water. The only downside? A sweaty baby in 90 degree weather. And like your Mommy, you are on a bit of a schedule. You tend to be very awake in the morning and late afternoon, with a big sleep cycle in the early afternoon. Yesterday we did errands between 10am and 4pm. You did great with a few meals in the car, sleeping in the carrier and we hit as many air-conditioned places as possible.

You are still a great eater and a great pooper. We change your diaper ALOT, nearly every hour. You get quite frustrated if you want to eat and need a diaper change, as you do NOT like having a wet diaper. I'm hoping against hope this means you'll potty train with minimal fuss. Then I sigh--this is a likely three years away.

Already you have outgrown a few of your onsies. They aren't long enough! Will you have a long torso like Mommy and Uncle Dave? We just hope it also comes with long legs, something Mommy and Uncle Dave did not inherit from your Grandpa Russ. Again, I am grateful for the obscene amount of clothes you have. Especially since we are doing quite a bit of laundry along with the frequent diaper changes.

I finally broke down and gave a pacifier a shot. You love to do what's called "non-nutritive sucking." But I'm not just your mommy, I'm your milk cow, and you don't like being drowned in breast milk. You don't like the pacifier. You like my pinky finger. This is less than convenient in the car. We'll keep giving it a shot. But I'm not spending tons of money finding the preferred pacifier. This is the only one you'll get.

Daddy is finally home on paternity leave, and you just love to stare at his face. Mine is old hat by now, but Daddy is pretty darn interesting. Must be the glasses and all that facial hair. He's so good at soothing you, and I love to watch you together. You also get Daddy lots of attention when he hold you, which Daddy loves.

You finally met all the grandmas. Mimi Cindy and Uncle John came up last Saturday before Grandma Nancy left. You were charming...meaning you slept most of the time. Uncle John was quite impressed with your tooting abilities.

I think you'll grow up to be a busy little guy. I can't wait to see how you grow!

Love
Mommy

Why is it that babies are so cute in hats? What an adorable picture. And I didn't know they made bathtubs that small. Congratulations on the prematernity jeans. I'm just working on fitting into my Pre-L.A. jeans right now. We have had lots of fun trying new restaurants in LA. There is amazing food everywhere you turn here.
